Director of DevOps

The Director of DevOps lives to see amazing experiences delivered in the real world. They see the necessity of automation for supporting complex applications at scale. They relentlessly optimize processes to make things safer and faster. They enjoy working in cross-functional teams to design and deliver resilient and secure solutions. They are constantly learning and actively seek to understand industry trends anticipating the building blocks and tools necessary to deliver world-class experiences. As a part of a practice, they create space to share opportunities and successes, building up a culture of collaboration that focuses on learning rather than blame. They investigate, experiment, and report conclusions to make the solution clear for the next person on the path.

They will partner with other architects to design solutions, choosing needed cloud offerings, software, and services. Plus, review architectural decisions of other projects-design automation for the software development lifecycle including quality, security, and observability. Write and review code that provisions and manages infrastructure and systems. Lead troubleshooting when things do not work as expected.

Responsibilities
  • Lead rapidly changing work and communicate the status of work across teams
  • Learn new technologies understanding industry trends, and implement good practices based on broader conversations
  • Teach what you learn to help others solve problems
  • Actively listen to problem descriptions understanding what is needed not just what was requested
  • Write and review scripts to execute sequential steps to accomplish tasks
  • Troubleshoot complex web applications, services, and environments using tools and logs
  • Support teams to develop processes to continually learn and improve

Requirements
  • Source control to branch, commit, and push code
  • Scripting languages: Bash, PowerShell, Groovy, Python, Ruby
  • Public clouds: Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud
  • Serverless solutions: FaaS, Storage, Databases, etc.
  • Content delivery networks: Akamai, CloudFront, Azure CDN
  • Server operating systems: RedHat Enterprise Linux, Ubuntu Linux, Microsoft Windows Server
  • Containers: Docker, Kubernetes, ECS, AKS
  • Web and application servers: Apache, IIS, Tomcat
  • Web content management systems: Adobe Experience Manager, Sitecore, Drupal
  • DevOps toolchains: Jenkins, Azure DevOps, Terraform, Puppet, Chef

Competencies
  • Ability to learn new technologies
  • Experience leading and tracking work in a ticketing system and coordinating efforts
  • Experience scripting and reviewing others' scripts for tasks
  • Experience with DevOps methodologies, web development life cycle, source control systems, continuous integration, change management and task-tracking tools.
  • Experience troubleshooting web applications, services, and environments
  • Experience designing infrastructure to support web applications, services, and environments
