Why we're hiring:
As the USA focused Advertising Clearance Paralegal, you will work closely with all members of the Business Affairs team within WPP Legal to provide commercial legal advice to WPP's agencies. You will assist the team with the providing clearance and intellectual property advice related to fast moving projects in the USA.
The mission of the Business Affairs team is to partner with the business to provide swift pragmatic commercial advice, to enable agencies to win work and to reduce risk.
What you'll be doing:
You will assist with day-to-day advertising clearance and content queries for some of WPP's largest global and US based clients, ensuring quick response times to WPP's agencies and a compliant clearance process. You will manage a global advertising content clearance process, which means carrying out review of advertising content and copy in all mediums (TV, digital and print) for IP issues, regulatory compliance, influencer issues, claims substantiation, competitions and sweepstakes, promotional offers, and internal and client policy compliance. This will include performing preliminary and global trademark searches for proposed branding, taglines, signage, design, etc. You will have the opportunity to improve your understanding of US advertising clearance and intellectual property laws as you advise agency teams on risk assessments in scripts, rough cuts and final creative. You will become familiar with WPP client advertising standards and approach to advertising in order to provide advice to WPP agencies.
You will vet vendors for compliance with contracting guidelines and review client contracts such as MSAs. You will work with agency and WPP legal counsel on various contracting issues such as talent agreements, production contracts, updating releases, legal templates, vendor insurance coverage, and various licensing agreements.
You will conduct legal research for all members of the Business Affairs team within WPP Legal, in relation to advertising standards and intellectual property law. You will assist with drafting legal updates to WPP agencies if laws change and processes change, ensuring that the business runs as efficiently as possible.
