Position at Acceleration


The NA Managing Director will hold overall responsibility for the Acceleration P&L in NA and will lead, manage and ensure the profitable growth of the business, setting strategy and delivering results. The ideal candidate will come from a technology/media background having a clear understanding and knowledge of technology, consulting and the agency ecosystem. The MD will have dual reporting lines to Local Market Sponsor and Global CEO, Acceleration, and will need to be comfortable working in a complex, matrixed organization. Key responsibilities fall into the following categories:

Strategy & Leadership
  • Set and execute the strategy for the business to deliver revenue growth and profit for Acceleration
  • Align strategy and execution to that of Acceleration and GroupM
  • Work with Acceleration and GroupM leadership to clarify the positioning of solutions to maximize market fit.
  • Motivate, inspire and collaborate with embedded local roles, as well as global Acceleration roles, required to deliver on objectives.

Sales & commercials
  • Work with the GroupM Agencies, and Acceleration Chief Commercial Officer to develop opportunities in collaboration with the agencies their clients, and partners.
  • Actively build, qualify, nurture, and convert a local opportunity pipeline.
  • Build greater levels of agency engagement and stimulate pipeline development, by educating agency CEO's and their teams on the strategic value of the Acceleration capability.
  • Represent the Acceleration brand with the agencies, clients, Google, GroupM and the industry.
  • Manage the annual, quarterly and monthly budgeting and forecasting process, working closely with Global Acceleration team and local GroupM leadership.
  • Ensure budgets and forecasts are accurate, based on a strong understanding of the underlying risks, business, clients, and cost structure.

  • Google is a key partner for revenue development. The role will be required to develop strong and productive relationships with local Google leadership.
  • In collaboration with the Acceleration EVP Google Partnership, and the Chief Commercial Officer, develop and execute joint business plans with local Google leadership.
  • Amongst other requirements, this will include annual and quarterly planning, joint pipeline planning, opportunity identification, and "sell-with" collaboration for Google Technology & Consulting Services.

Capability and Operations
  • Collaborate with the global Acceleration Capability team, for pre-sales support, project scoping and pricing, project management office, delivery and expansion of Consulting projects as well as Technology sales.
  • Support and input into the ongoing evolution of the central Capability, to deliver on market needs and the requirements of the business.

Key success measures
  • Revenue Growth - KPI's to be set annually.
  • Profit Margin and Growth - KPI's to be set annually.
  • Quality of pipeline and accuracy for Forecast - KPI's to be set annually
  • Quantifiable client case studies


Ideal candidates will have a growth mindset and be leading clients grappling with how brands use data, martech/adtech and advanced analytics to deliver seamless, orchestrated, experiences across paid as well as owned and earned media. They will understand the online advertising arena and will possess a true grasp of how technology and data can be applied to drive value for clients, and profitable return for the business.

They will have a proven track record of driving revenue growth and being a trusted advisor that builds strong client relationships. They should be consultative in approach, and always have the clients best interest at heart. They will be commercially astute and comfortable with budgeting and forecasting.

The individual must be a strong leader, be able to motivate and inspire. Politically-astute, they will bring exceptional stakeholder management skills, capable of managing and engaging with multiple stakeholders, in a matrixed and complex environment, including agency CEOs and technology experts.

Detailed Qualifications:
  • An industry veteran, you will have extensive (20+ years) relevant experience at a senior leadership level within the advertising / marketing / technology industry.
  • While academic qualifications count less than hands-on experience and results, a University degree or masters (or higher) will be seen as positive for a role that requires intellectual as well as interpersonal rigour.
  • Commercially astute, and good experience with budget, forecasts and running a P&L.
  • Must have prior experience in a technology / digital media environment and critical to have a firm grasp of the value and role of data and technology.
  • An ability to understand and communicate how data and technology can deliver on media and advertising use cases, that drive performance.
  • Experience with Google Marketing Platform is a must, and experience with Salesforce, Adobe, or other clouds a bonus.
  • Knowledge of Identity and 1st party data management is key, as well as an understanding of analytics and modelling.
  • Firm grasp on the audience and identity data that makes up audience profiles, online ad targeting, and campaign optimization
  • You will have a proven track record of creating opportunities and delivering results in a very competitive environment.
  • CMO level interaction and relationship experience - ability to talk operations, change management, data and technology at a strategic level with C-suite. Ability to go a level deeper and talk more tactically with client delivery teams inside the client organization.
  • You will have a demonstrated track record in successfully managing the operations of fast-growing businesses and proven delivery of revenue / profit - results driven.
  • You will have a well-established profile in the industry, be in a position to confidently represent Acceleration at senior levels within WPP, GroupM its Agencies, and also Google.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation and written / oral communication skills.
  • Understanding and mastery of consultative selling.
  • Strong understanding of industry trends, technologies and pricing models
