Position at Acceleration


Reporting to the Chief Consulting Officer - NA, the Principal Consultant plays a critical role surfacing, scoping, and delivering data and technology consulting engagements with our clients. Typically the entry point into any client opportunity, the Principal Consultant will understand the challenges, define an approach, and ensure the right mix of skills, resource and guidance are applied, in order to deliver qualifiable business value. As Principal Consultant, your duties include working directly with clients, analyzing and planning business strategy, and advising clients on data and technology solutions. You will build strong, trusted advisor relationships with clients, and also be responsible for leading the team during client projects, and overseeing it's daily operations. You will work with strong subject matter experts across marketing data and technology, and contribute to defining the new client operating model, roles and processes, in order to ensure new data and technology solutions are adopted. As well as playing a subject matter and leadership role, the Principal Consultants plays a critical commercial function, and stays with the project, responsible for un-covering and defining future phases, each realizing additional value for the client, and Acceleration.


Acceleration is part of WPP, the world's largest advertising and marketing services group. Clients come to us to solve todays biggest challenges, surrounding the use of data and technology, to support delivery of improved digital marketing experiences for their customers, across paid, owned and earned environments. Typically their biggest area of investment is media, and using data and technology, to un-lock value in this area is critical. You will display a distinctive level of subject matter expertise on how to architect and deliver advertising / marketing technology and data strategies that accelerate client value, by increasing customer engagement and personalization in this area. Google is a key partner of ours, and a primary route to market - knowledge of the Google Marketing Platform as well as how Google Cloud can improve marketing efforts is a strong bonus.


Right now, strong candidates will be leading small, cross functional teams of experts, who are grappling with how brands use data and martech/adtech to deliver seamless omni-channel experiences to their customers across paid, owned and earned media. They will have gone under the hood of marketing clouds from Salesforce, Adobe, Google and others, and tried to figure out how this infrastructure can deliver true value to the client organization, including the changes required to marketing operations to truly adopt customer centric marketing. They will have designed and run multi-workstream consulting programs, and nothing will excite them more than finding solutions to some of the toughest challenges marketing faces today - they should thrive in a workshop environment, working collaboratively and openly with clients and colleagues alike. Whilst much of the role is about leading a team, we need an individual who has worked in the subject matter and is not afraid to get their hands dirty.

  • Heavily involved at pre-sales stage, the Principal Consultant will a senior leader of the team. They will actively contribute to content development, and will help win the confidence of clients by demonstrating practical experience of solving similar challenges, with other clients.
  • Design and lead complex engagements spanning multiple functions within the client organization. Be the trusted advisor to the client, and the team leader to the group of experts assembled to deliver the project.
  • Lead a cross-functional team of specialists tasked with solving challenges, and delivering clearly articulated, qualifiable business value to clients.
  • Gain an in-depth understanding of the client's business strategy and key objectives in order to provide the solution that ensures success and value realization
  • Initiate the discovery process through leading requirements gathering workshops, taking clients on a journey to the solution.
  • Lead audits of the client's data and technical ecosystem to understand data sources, current technology platforms and available solutions.
  • Understand current operating models and processes, and understand how these might need to change under a new solution
  • Create a high level executive vision for the project and secure buy-in
  • Working with subject matter experts, architect technical solutions in collaboration with the client and internal teams, ensuring all risks are avoided
  • Unpack high level vision into multiple, deliverable work streams, and providing guidance and oversight to the technical delivery teams, around execution of work streams
  • Working with Program Management, deliver or manage the delivery of the final solution, at all times ensuring that methodology, tools and best practices are adhered too
  • Identify additional opportunities with the client, and ensure a rolling engagement for Acceleration.
  • Validate and audit solutions to ensure they conform to the solution design and meet client objectives
  • Regular interaction with the client throughout the project lifecycle, providing feedback, highlighting possible issues, constantly ensuring that stakeholders are comfortable that the solution roadmap is being adhered to.

  • Postgraduate qualification, in Marketing, Technology or Business
  • 15 + years relevant consulting experience, providing clients with marketing capability across data, technology, people and process.
  • Comfortable working with business, marketing and IT stakeholders and C-level and below.
  • A quick and strategic thinker across a broad range of marketing technology and digital marketing topics across various verticals. A thirst for self-learning and improvement.
  • Good understanding of and thought leadership around the marketing and ad-tech landscape and players, including DSP's and bidding engines. Experience that includes managing 1st and 3rd party data, use of CDP's, DMP's, A/B testing, cross channel campaign management, and decision-ing engines. Experience with analytics, segmentation and personalization.
  • Deeper knowledge of Google Marketing Platform, Google Cloud a strong bonus
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the oversight of multiple consulting projects in tandem
  • Sales background or evidence of growth mindset.
  • Ability to engage and lead teams from different disciplines - an ability to see the big picture, but also how it breaks down.
  • Capable of presenting complex ideas succinctly to all levels within an organization
  • Strong analytical and communication skills with good sense for business finance
