As a Lead Cloud Platform Engineer you will work within cross-functional team and will be an SME in one or more of the following cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP or Alibaba). You will be able to work in a complex environment, grasp complex business and technical requirements and be able to provide thought leadership. You will be willing to learn new cloud platform technologies in support of the Cloud CoE requirements.

You will provide technical leadership in cloud technologies, help structure, and build the Cloud CoE to a fully functional centre of expertise in cloud services and provide oversight and development leadership to the 3 rd Party Cloud Managed Service provision.

You provide day to day management, leadership, governance, and development to, and will help develop, coach and mentor our to our team of on-shore/off-shore Cloud Engineering and Project Management staff ensuring that they develop to and remain a cohesive, trusted, respected, professional, and sustainable community of practice, working as one team irrespective of location.

What you'll be doing:
  • You will join the Cloud Centre of Excellence and focus on adding hands-on technical expertise, ensuring outcomes meet the highest technical and agile standards.
  • You will be able to understand project requirements and be able to offer professional technical insight.
  • As a Lead Cloud Platform Engineer you will be expected to work with WPP OpCos to understand their project aims and to offer professional and commercial insight to ensure OpCo satisfaction as well as representing the commercial interests of the WPP group.
  • You should be self-sufficient when engaged in smaller assignments representing the company by themselves, always ensuring customer satisfaction through high quality work and outstanding OpCo care.
  • You will be the SME on Public Cloud and related technologies for the project delivery team. Strong experience in a multi-disciplined team is critical as is your ability to clearly communicate complex technology solutions.
  • You will be responsible for defining tasks, scope, and effort from user stories during user research sessions.
  • You will be responsible for the production of high level and low-level design documents and other technical project related artefacts.
  • You will be involved in the qualification and bid process for new opportunities providing relevant technical input into the process.
  • You will help establish, define, and maintain cloud architecture design patterns, blueprints, and best practices.
  • Provide hands-on cloud technical skills.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with a variety of architecture and business stakeholders, WPP, WPP IT Functions, OpGroups / OpCos and project managers.
  • Active member of the cloud opensource community, cloud technical design authority - attend, contribute and present when required
  • Conduct Design reviews with the Operating Groups.

What you'll need:
  • Avid technologist with deep expertise in AWS and Azure (GCP a bonus), as well as another public / private / hybrid cloud. A broad knowledge of technology developments and trends.
  • History of successful implementations of complex public cloud architecture
  • Expert knowledge in public and hybrid cloud architecture, networking, workload types, migration, patterns, and tools
  • Establish and manage an architecture design
  • Deep understanding of cloud design patterns, cloud operations and cloud cost models with hands-on ability to implement best practices or suggest improvements
  • Hands-on experience working in an Enterprise environment
  • Ability to suggest competitive and innovative technical decisions, elicit peer group, stakeholder, and senior management buy-in and deliver commitments
  • Strong communication skills, ability to present technical ideas to non-technical audience
  • Proactive analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • A Self-starter
  • A good understanding of IT Outsourcing and able to work with on-shore, near-shore, and off-shore operating model.
  • In depth knowledge of architecture frameworks and methodologies
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate
  • Develop and maintain relationships with a variety of architecture and business stakeholders, WPP, WPP IT Functions, OpGroups / OpCos and project managers.
  • Conduct Design reviews with the Operating Groups
  • Cloud platforms, emerging computing trends and their impact on partner practice building opportunities.
  • Demonstrable architecture, design, implementation, and/or support of complex application architectures
  • Conversant knowledge of AWS, Google cloud services compete
  • Experience in one or more of the 5 deep specialisationsbelow:
  • Infrastructure: Platform Architecture and Design, Compute, Networking, Storage and DevOps, additionally good experience required (2+ years) in
    • Google Cloud, Terraform, Big Data, Kubernetes, IAM, Security, Cloud KMS, Pub/Sub, Cloud DataFlow, BigQuery, CloudSQL, StackDriver, Migration Techniques, Resiliency, Infrastructure Security, BC & DR, and Management Tools
    • Infrastructure as Code for all environments build/config fully automated using Terraform
    • VPC, IAM roles/accounts, Firewall rules, Shared VPCs, DNS, Proxy, NAT Gateways in a highly restricted and secured environments
  • App Dev: Containers, Apps, Web, Mobile, DevOps, additionally good experience required (2+ years) in
    • Compute, Networking, Storage, Migration Technique, Resiliency, Microservices and Application Security.
    • Cloud Pub/Sub, Cloud DataFlow, BigQuery, Postgres CloudSQL, Apache NiFi, Confluent Kafka, GCS Buckets.
  • Identity/Security: Identity, Security Architecture, Security Management and Network Security, additionally good experience required (2+ years) in
    • Compute, Networking, Storage, Containers, Migration Technique, Resiliency and DevOps.
    • Cloud KMS, encryption, decryption, encryption at rest and data encryption during transit design and solution
  • 3rd Party product integrations, Analytics, Data & Insights, secret management.
  • Continuous Integration tools and strategies
  • Troubleshooting skills, problem solving and resolution (root cause identification)
  • 5 years designing and administrating various cloud platforms in a large-scale environment. (Preferred platforms: Azure and AWS)
  • 5 years developing automation and continuous integration processes
  • 10 years' experience in an enterprise IT environment, ideally multi-tenant, that includes administration, support and implementation of networked Windows and Linux server systems.
  • Cloud Certification (Attained or willing to work towards attaining in first 12 months).
