WPP Shared Service Centre (SCC)

The WPP SCC provides transactional financial services to WPP companies in the UK, including:
  • Accounts Payable, including Intercompany transactions
  • Accounts Receivable (Billing, Credit Control & Cash Allocation)
  • Treasury
  • Accounting and Reporting
  • Statutory Reporting

By consolidating activities, the WPP SCC takes advantage of volume to deliver increased efficiency. This is achieved by standardising, streamlining, and aligning relevant processes, and introducing tools and technology to drive effectiveness across our operations. By taking over transactional financial activities, the WPP SCC enables our agencies to focus on commercial activities, client management as well as revenue and cost management.

In 2021, the WPP SCC UK organisation transferred specific process and transactional activities to the WPP SCC in India. The WPP SCC teams in the UK and India work together to provide services to WPP companies in the UK.

What you'll be doing:

The Accounts Receivable Department consists of Credit Control, Cash Allocation and Media Billing teams. The Credit Control team is made up of 3 Senior Credit Controllers, 12 Credit Controllers and 1 Reporting Analyst. The team is responsible for collecting around £350m each month, across 1650 external 'Blue-Chip' clients, and on behalf of 40+ internal companies.

This role is responsible for the cash collection for a portfolio of clients as well as producing detailed commentary for daily, weekly, and monthly reports.

This role will report into a Senior Credit Controller.
  • Responsible for collection of payment for a dedicated debtor ledger and for sending statements to clients.
  • Use the Credit Control tool Get Paid to proactively chase clients to ensure that payment is made to contractual terms and to meet collection targets set by Credit Control Manager; updating Get Paid daily with calls, correspondence and remittances received.
  • Establish/update contacts where necessary at client and agency level to facilitate payments.
  • Identify any issues which may delay payment and escalate to the appropriate contact to have them resolved in time for payment to contractual terms.
  • Provide debtor commentary for weekly and month-end reporting.
  • Attend weekly debtor calls with agencies via Teams, to discuss current position and concerns on top accounts.
  • Complete cashflow forecasts twice a month.
  • Attend client and agency meetings where required.
  • Ensure the integrity of notes and supporting documentation in accordance with agreed processes.

What you'll need:
  • Excellent communication skills - able to communicate effectively both internally and externally, verbally and in writing, as well as at different levels of an organisation.
  • Commercially focused with a proactive service-oriented approach.
  • Able to build and maintain strong internal and external working relationships.
  • Excellent IT skills (Microsoft Office), particularly with Excel.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Managing of own workload and collaboration with your team to ensure consistent service levels.
  • Good understanding of general accounting principles relating to the sales ledger and experience in credit control.
  • Role will require occasional travel to various WPP companies (the are also based in central London).
  • There may also be a requirement to work additional hours occasionally due to tight deadlines and month-end processes.
