About Hill & Knowlton

Hill & Knowlton is the global strategic communications leader for transformation. We help brands, businesses and leaders build reputation, manage risk, and create breakthrough opportunities for growth. Founded in 1927, today's Hill & Knowlton operates 70 offices in over 30 countries, providing advisory, public relations and creative solutions to local and global clients. Our global team offers integrated strategic services, grounded in deep sector expertise, and enabled by creativity and intelligence. Headquartered in New York, Hill & Knowlton is part of WPP, one of the world's largest communications services groups.

OUR TEAM

The H&K Sport team works with the biggest brands, federations and sponsors in the world of sport. Working with clients including adidas, HSBC, Gillette and The IOC, the team uses its diverse expertise and experiences to create work that delivers fame and drives conversation.

The team is united in its belief that sport has the power to create change and positively impact culture; and it is this core belief that runs through the portfolio of work delivered for clients.

Whether it's supporting London's grassroots footballers with Rent-A-Pred, breaking the internet with Messi and a goat, supporting women commentators with HSBC, partnering with Ian Wright to launch a new curriculum to teach Black History with Gillette, or changing the game with Stormzy and #Merky FC, the Sport team is known across the industry for creative work that stands out.

This role will report into a Senior Content+Publishing Strategist, as part of a wider team of specialists that sit within the Sport team at-large.

THE ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

Creative:
  • Ability to generate ideas that deliver true cut-through with relevant target audiences, whether that be via paid, owned, earned or shared channels; global or UK. We're looking for ideas that drive conversation and headlines, not just likes or industry pats-on-the-back.
  • Ability to draw on a wide range of modern creative references and ideas, those that have shaped contemporary Gen Z culture and social media behaviour.
  • Strong articulator of ideas, using a combination of visual storytelling devices and communication skills to passionately explain concepts.
  • Ability to work with, and to unearth yourself, audience insights that form the backbone of your creative thinking.
  • A detailed understanding of how creative ideas match up to client objectives and business challenges, ensuring that our output remains relevant to their needs.

Content:
  • Comprehensive understanding of the modern media landscape, from how publishers and media behave through to audience platform behaviour - and how to leverage this to create cutting-edge work.
  • Extensive knowledge of how current social platforms operate, including content best practice, aspect ratios, formats and features.

Client & Team:
  • Ability to create and disseminate best practice guidance to clients and internal teams on how to publish on channels, from copywriting through to feature integration.
  • Be seen as a passionate, creative innovator by clients and internal teams alike, constantly being the source for creative and content inspiration.
  • Demonstrate a strong knowledge of sport and the sporting landscape including how brands can engage consumers through other passion points.
  • Provide recommendations and insight to growth strategies for clients, identify new opportunities and play a proactive role in terms of proposal development, pitching and conversion.

DESIRED ATTRIBUTES
  • Experience with crafting ideas of many different types and formats, from solely text-based ideas through to multi-channel creative.
  • Experience crafting creative treatments for varying forms of content.
  • Experience producing content and managing process with designers, videographers, crews - and the ability to provide creative direction and feedback throughout the process.
  • Understanding of how paid, owned, earned and shared channels intertwine and the ecosystem between them - and its ability to create impact and scale.
  • An analytical understanding of how to devise, manage and optimise approaches to briefs in order to meet KPIs and assess performance.
  • You are an enthusiastic creative + content professional who's hungry to make culture-defining work for some of the biggest sports brands in the world. You'll love coming up with headline-driving ideas that push boundaries, but you'll be equally as excited by how these ideas come to life across the modern social and earned media landscape - and be able to articulate that plan accordingly.
  • As well as being a huge sports fan, you'll also be tapped in to youth culture at-large, knowing what content, media and platforms a global Gen Z audience in 2023 are engaging with.
